Have A Monster Christmas

It's a week before Christmas
And all through our day
Everywhere we go
Holiday music is played

At the end of the day
It's time to relax
We sit on our couch
And stretch out our backs

We turn on our t.v.'s
To watch our favorite shows
Instead we find characters
Greeting us with Ho Ho Ho's

We sat and we watched
All of our favorites have been viewed
We start searching
Hoping to find something new

Has some good news
We have a song and two shows
Which are thankfully new

Well not really new
They're really quite old
But they're rarely aired
Or so we've been told

The first show we share
Stars a family we all know
"Christmas with the Addams Family"
From the Addams Family show

We searched until we found
Another good pick
"The Munster's Scary Little Christmas"
Made in 1996

Feel free to go ahead
And check your local t.v. listings
But most likely you will find
Both of these shows will be missing

Head to your computer
And when you have time
Begin your search again
But this time online

Promised not only two shows
But also a holiday song
So here you go

Bobby Pickett wrote a song
For Halloween fun
"Monster Mash" is known
And loved by everyone

Pickett also wrote a song
For Christmas play
It's our favorite
"Monster's Holiday"

We hope you enjoy
These things we have shared
Wants you to know that we care

So relax and enjoy
Have happy holidays
When it's time to go out and play!

Thanksgiving, A Time For Monster and Horror Movies

The month of October is filled with monster movies and horror flicks and November can bring a feeling of loss as the movies get tucked away for another year.  But alas, if you are a true fan of the genre, relax.  Monster Mini Golf Medford has found the films for you!

First, a spoiler alert.  These films are bad.  Really, really awfully bad.  To be enjoyed (if possible) by hard core horror fans only.

The first film Monster Mini Golf Medford has chosen for you brings us back to 1972. Blood Freak is a about a man who works on a turkey farm who agrees to participate in an experiment in which scientists are trying to find methods to modify turkeys.  So he eats the experimental turkey meat, convulses, and the scientists leave him off by the side of the road.  But oh no!  What's happening now?  You guessed it horror movie fans.  The man's head turns into a giant turkey head and now he must go around killing people to get a fix of his drug.  Or does he? Hmm....

What would the Thanksgiving holiday be without a viewing of Thankskilling?  This film has a puppet looking turkey going on a killing spree.  You will be treated to the usual cast of characters, a la the Breakfast Club.  The kids come home to celebrate the holiday, but will they make it back to school?  You'll have to watch to find out.  Be prepared for low budget humor, but one all time great line.  Watch and see if you can figure out the one we're talking about.  Unbelievably, you can also choose to view Thankskilling 2, He Always Comes Back For Seconds.

Finally, we have Home Sweet Home. Barely watchable, but does actually take place on Thanksgiving.  An escaped mental patient comes across a family celebrating Thanksgiving and of course must kill them all.  The movie strives to actually be scary, but it's an epic fail.

So what about monster movies?  How do they fit in?  Sadly, we did not come across any true Thanksgiving monsters.  Well, other than a man who grows a turkey head and a murderous fowl.  But for many people, Thanksgiving conjures up memories of monster movie marathons on tv.  Hours of Godzilla and King Kong.  So in our minds here at Monster Mini Golf Medford, Thanksgiving will always be a time for monster movies.

Happy Thanksgiving from our families to yours!

History Of The Jack O'Lantern

Here is an excerpt from History.com explaining the history of the Jack O'Lantern:

The Legend of "Stingy Jack"

People have been making jack-o'-lanterns at Halloween for centuries. The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed "Stingy Jack." According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn't want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree's bark so that the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.
Soon after, Jack died. As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the trick Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as "Jack of the Lantern," and then, simply "Jack O'Lantern."
In Ireland and Scotland, people began to make their own versions of Jack's lanterns by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering evil spirits. In England, large beets are used. Immigrants from these countries brought the jack o'lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found that pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect jack-o'-lanterns.
Us monsters here at Monster Mini Golf Medford just eat up all Halloween history.!
