It was Dr. Frankenstein who created a monster in his lab. The monster actually was not given a name in the novel written by Mary Shelley. Dr. Victor Frankenstein was obsessed in his search to discover the secret of life. After many years of research, he thought he had the answer and began to build his creation. He combined body parts from corpses and used electricity to start the heart. He did it! He created life! But when he looked at the monster, he was horrified.Dr. Frankenstein left his home in despair. When he returned, the monster was gone. The two cross paths later on and the monster tells Dr. Frankenstein that he is desperately lonely and begs the Dr. to create a creature as hideous as he is so that he may have a companion. Denied at first, the monster is eloquent and persuades the Dr.
Dr. Frankenstein begins building a female creature, but becomes frightened by the monster and destroys his second creation. The two once again go their separate ways. The Dr. attempts to capture the monster, but is unsuccessful.
The end of the novel brings the death of Dr. Frankenstein and the grief of the monster. The monster is left alone and with the death of his creator feels he can finally die as well. The story ends with the monster traveling North to die.
Dr. Frankenstein is a great story of a mad scientist. The monster is not a monster at all. Just a lonely, misunderstood creature trying to find a place for himself in the world he was brought into.
